about

Recorded at the Museum of Modern Art, Norrköping, on September 26, 1987. Previously released 2008 as a download CD-R by Jan Ström, Ayler Records, Sweden.

The group "Miljövårdsverket" ("The Environmental Control Office") was officially founded on June 30, 1987 (according to the constituent assembly available at Ayler´s AYVI). However, the group had been playing for some 10 years before that.

The first record was released in 1985, "Now´s the Frippe Time". In 2001, Ayler released three tracks Frippe recorded in March 2000 with Sunny Murray at Glenn Miller Café in Stockholm. This happened to be Frippe´s last performance. He passed away in October the same year.

In 2003, Ayler Records released maybe the most comprehensive recording made by the group in double CD; "The Environmental Control Office" (aylCD-021/022) recorded in Stockholm in June 1988. Here the group also included Lars Svanteson on violin.

In September 1987, the trio performed at the Museum Of Modern Art in Norrköping, Sweden. The concert was recorded to be just a document with simple equipment - no intention to be released. So, what you hold in your hand/computer is far from "surround sound" quality.

It´s a document for the keen fan of Swedish improvised music in general and of the spectacular performer Frippe and the unique group "Miljövårdsverket" in particular.

We will remember Frippe´s introduction as the "Chairman" of the group and his typical chat almost impossible to translate to English. Here is also his strain of Swedish folk music like "The Girls from Småland" and the often played "Now´s the Time".
